Academy in Exile

Academy in Exile brings together multidisciplinary cohorts of scholars around a unified theme, with the aim of enabling persecuted scholars to collaborate with one another and resume their work in Germany. Currently, Academy in Exile supports 24 scholars with either long-term fellowships (12 to 24 months) or short-term emergency stipends (three months) .

In response to the growing need of scholars at risk today, Academy in Exile was founded in 2017. The initial fellowships were awarded to scholars from Turkey on the basis of applicants’ academic merit and risk status. With the programme entering its third year, AiE fellowships are now available to scholars from all over the world. They anticipate opening a new funding round towards the end of 2020.
