Osman Kavala, a Turkish publisher, and philanthropist, has been awarded the Courage in Public Scholarship Award by the Transregional Center for Democratic Studies’ (TCDS), The New School for Social Research. For four years, Kavala was detained by the Turkish government for his civil society activism and for promoting intercultural understanding and regional dialogue.
