In this 24-session seminar, we will discuss the political transformation of the People’s Republic of China in different aspects, including the Chinese communist revolution, party-state system, ideology, law and human rights, political economy, social structure and international relations. You will enjoy the updated intellectual discussion of Chinese politics, and learn more analytical tools and ways of thinking for Chinese political-social studies. Hence, you will be able to offer more in-depth and careful perspectives to the general debate on ‘where is China going and why’. It will be a wonderful opportunity to engage in dialogue with a variety of prominent experts, and connect with other class participants who share the same concern about Chinese politics and society. Instruction will be in Chinese.

More Information:

Registered participants who attend at least 20 complete seminar sessions will receive a certificate of satisfactory completion from the Dean of The New School for Social Research. In order to obtain the certificate, participants must register and log in with the same email address each week.

Registration will remain open for the duration of the seminar. Registrants will receive a reminder email with the Zoom link each week.

The seminar sessions will be recorded and available to registrants on YouTube.

Dr. Teng Biao

滕彪:纽约城市大学亨特学院Hauser学者,芝加哥大学Pozen客座讲授,人权律师,《中国民主季刊》副主编。研究领域包括法律社会学、中国司法、人权、社会运动与民主化。

Teng Biao is an academic lawyer, Hauser Human Rights Scholar at Hunter College, CUNY, and Pozen Visiting Professor at the University of Chicago, deputy editor of China Democracy Quarterly. His research interests include sociology of law, Chinese justice, human rights, social movement and democratization.

Dr. Andrew J. Nathan

黎安友:知名汉学家,哥伦比亚大学政治学系讲座教授。研究领域包括中国政治与外交、比较政治、民主理论、政治文化及人权理论。

Andrew J. Nathan is a renowned China scholar and Class of 1919 Professor of Political Science at Columbia University. His research interests include Chinese politics and diplomacy, comparative politics, democratic theory, political culture, and human rights.
