How can an academic institution join the Consortium?
Any academic institution that is already hosting an at-risk scholar or wishes to host one in the near future can join the Consortium. Interested institutions should contact us by emailing UIEConsortium@newschool.edu.
Who qualifies as an endangered or exiled scholar?
Anyone with a PhD or equivalent degree who has held a teaching or researcher position in an institution of higher education beyond graduate school and has faced or fled from severe and targeted threats to their lives and/or careers in their home countries or countries of residence within the last 5 years.
Can member institutions host more than one scholar?
Yes, we ask that member institutions host at least one scholar, however, we welcome the participation of additional exiled scholars from a single institution.
Does the Consortium welcome scholars from any academic discipline?
Yes, scholars from all academic disciplines are welcome to participate in the programming of the Consortium.
Do scholars need to speak English?
Yes.
Can endangered or exiled scholars housed at non-consortium institutions participate in Consortium programming?
Unfortunately, the Consortium does not have the capacity to work with all endangered or exiled scholars around the globe, particularly without institutional support. If a scholar or a host institution is interested in participating in Consortium programming, we ask that the institution begin the process of becoming a Consortium member.
