Is USA-style freedom of speech a viable model for countries including China, Iran, and Turkey? The presenters addressed the challenges posed by the rise of (electoral) authoritarianism around the world and considered whether and how western norms of free speech and academic freedom might be operationalized to promote, rather than obstruct, freedom as a universal value.
