2019-2020 Annual Report

This year, in collaboration with our 18 member universities and colleges, we worked to support more than 40 endangered exiled scholars from 11 countries. We welcomed the scholars into an active and thriving intellectual community in an effort to lessen the profound impact that being in exile has on their intellectual and personal lives.

In the words of a Consortium Scholar, “The New University in Exile Consortium allowed me to continue to work freely in a place that is a safe haven for scholars from all fields. A place that makes it possible to regain academic freedom, to express ideas, and interact with an extraordinary community.”

We would like to thank the Consortium Member Institutions, our Institutional Liaisons, and our partner organizations for their ongoing support. We are also grateful for financial support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, The Arnhold Foundation, The Carnegie Corporation of New York, Open Society Foundations, and from individual donors, without whom our work would not be possible.
