On August 15, 2022, media outlet KQED published an article by Rachael Myrow profiling Afghan journalist and women’s rights activist Masuma Mohammadi who has been hosted by San José State University, a Consortium member institution, for the last five months. Mohammadi found her way to San José State through the work of the Afghan Visiting Scholars program, coordinated through the efforts of Halima Kazem-Stojanovic and her collaborators at UC Berkeley’s Human Rights Center and San José State’s Human Rights Institute. The article outlines other initiatives, including the New University in Exile Consortium, that continue to help find placements for Afghan scholars, particularly women, at universities and colleges.
