Citizens, Scholars, and Civil Society Activists Gather to Support Gubad Ibadoghlu

On Thursday, March 14, friends, supporters, and democratic activists in Azerbaijan gathered outside of the Baku Court of Appeals to demonstrate their support for Gubad Ibadoghlu, who has now been unjustly imprisoned by the Aliyev regime for eight months. The court blocked Dr. Ibadoghlu’s lawyer’s appeal to transfer him to house arrest so that he could receive proper medical care for his rapidly deteriorating health.

Dr. Ibadoghlu continues to experience dire medical issues due to a lack of healthcare, medicine, and the poor conditions of his detention. Since his detention, visits from outside doctors from organizations such as the Red Crescent Society have been unilaterally blocked by the Azerbaijani government, despite official requests by the European Parliament, European Court of Human Rights, and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe for an independent medical evaluation.
