Webinar: Free Speech in the Academy
Originally Aired: October 16, 2025
12:00pm – 1:30pm ET
Increasingly brazen attacks on academic freedom and free speech across the United States are turning US universities, which only a year ago were safe havens for threatened international scholars, into places scholars must flee in order to protect their fundamental right to teach and speak out. We invite you to join us for “Free Speech in the Academy,” a webinar featuring esteemed speakers, Kenneth Roth, Jameel Jaffer, Eugene Volokh and Nancy Cantor, moderated by Steven Pinker. Our panelists will discuss the increasingly contentious issue of free speech and academic freedom on university and college campuses in the United States. Sponsored by the New University in Exile Consortium, whose mission is to assist endangered scholars from around the world, this program will highlight the potentially devastating impacts of censorship on universities, academics, and students in the US.
