A Dance Like This in the Middle of the Field Is My Desire

We are delighted to share that Dr. Sahraa Karimi’s limited series project, A Dance Like This in the Middle of the Field Is My Desire, has been selected as one of the nine projects chosen for the first edition of the Series Launch: Essentials program at MIDPOINT Institute in the Czech Republic.

This project, a television series, is the result of four years of collaboration with Dr. Karimi’s students. Beginning in an online screenwriting class with girls who, after the fall of Kabul and the return of the Taliban, were deprived of education and many of their rights and opportunities, yet whose voices were never silenced. Many of the experiences, stories, and research that shape this project emerged directly from those years of work together.

A Dance Like This in the Middle of the Field Is My Desire is a story about women, art, resistance, memory, and hope. It begins in Kabul and Delhi in 2019, travels back to Afghanistan and India in 1996, and unfolds through to 2024.
